The casual vibe of Rainbow Drive-In enhances the overall experience, inviting guests to kick back and savor their meals. However, it’s essential to note that while seating is available onsite, dining outdoors can invite some feathery companions, as Joohlie Carter humorously experienced with birds. We got the mix plate and chili cheese fries. There were a lot of seatings but we were attacked the pigeons and other birds that were there lol so eat in your car or go when they're not around. The food portion were great hit the spot!
My wife and I an early lunch here before hiking up Diamond Head. I got the Arabiki and two eggs plate, and my wife got the Chili dog plate, and we shared a soda. The Arabiki are kind of crunchy Japanese style sausages, which I enjoyed. My wife ate her whole chili dog plate (does not come with buns), so I'd say we both liked the food here. The service was quick and pleasant, we had no problem finding a place to sit, and there were plenty of locals here, so it seems like a popular place for a reason. The only knock I'd say is that they wanted to charge us for a whole new soda when we went to get a refill on our way out - no free refills. I didn't know any restaurants still did that. Still - I liked the experience and the food here, and I'd come back.
Rainbow Drive-In is a must-visit if you’re in the Honolulu area! I had the BBQ beef plate with fries and slaw – the portions were generous with plenty of flavorful, tender beef and a mountain of fries. While I was a little bummed they wouldn’t let me substitute the mac salad or slaw, I understand the policy, and the food itself more than made up for it. My wife ordered the Loco Moco plate with eggs over easy, and she absolutely loved it – perfectly cooked eggs and a rich, savory gravy. The atmosphere is simple and no-frills, with a few homeless individuals nearby, but they didn’t bother anyone. It’s all about the food here, and the quality speaks for itself. If you’re craving classic Hawaiian comfort food with hearty portions, Rainbow Drive-In is the spot. Highly recommend!
We loved the food here! We had the mix plate and the burger. Both were delicious. The cashier was lovely and the food came out promptly. Wish we came here in the beginning of our trip to Oahu so that we would have time to come back! Nice views of Waikiki at night.
I came here since I like to check out local hotspots. It was a little hard to find, but when I got there, it had a nice retro feel. I was just checking it out when a man at a table said you better order. There's going to be a lineup, so I ordered breakfast. I read some of the negative reviews, but my experience was positive. I enjoyed checking out local food and loved the breakfast. If you want exactly what you get at home, then go to a chain, but if you want what the locals like give this a try.
What is it about eating food out of a box, that is just so satisfying? Perhaps it’s because if there’s no mess, there’s no stress! Go ahead a throw etiquette out the window. When you’re eating out of a box, you can really go ham. Food was hearty and freaking yummy. I should really stop writing reviews before lunch time...
Came here a few times and literally everything I had was delicious. Chili, loco moco, mahi mahi and even my niece enjoyed her cheese burger. There can be large crowds, but we never have to wait a long time. A must try when in Oahu, you won’t be disappointed.
